Hot Hula December

Hot Hula was HOT! HOT! HOT!
We all sweat like pigs, but after it felt very refreshing. Mie took us through stretching, hand warm up, basic steps, and taught the chorus of "Ka Home Pilikai," a Keali'i Reichel song.

For the trial lesson for Hot Hula, we had a great turn out of friends--- beginners and advanced dancers of hula. Even a few "Asyik" staff joined our trial lesson and every one gave positive feedback! Hot Hula

Have you ever heard of Hot Yoga? In Japan it is a new fad... a new feel good fad. The room itself is not a steam room (like many other "hot" classes), but a room that is heated through the stones in the ground. It's originates from a traditional style hot stone (ganbanyoku) treatment where you just lie down on the stone and relax. The idea is to sweat out all of the impurities in your body and clean out your system. The instructors reccomend that you don't shower immediately after the class, because you will wash away all of the good nutrients that have surfaced on your skin. Sounds stinky, but it's not! The initial sweat that comes out of your body is all the toxins your body wants to get rid of---that may be stinky---but the sweat that comes after that is all clean-good stuff!

This particular hot stone room also claims that the stones also give off positive ions. Which is also good for your body.

So after visiting this place for Hot Yoga, I thought---why not Hot Hula? It is a good place to meditate and go inside yourself. The room is relaxing with dim lights and music in the background. There are mirrors so we can see our reflections, and it is a perfect atmosphere to practice a different side of hula---the spiritual and meditaive side!

We will practice posture, breathing deeply, meditating about what we should be thinking about when dancing hula. In our minds, we shouldn't be counting, "one, two, three, four," but thinking about what we are dancing and putting ourselves at the place we are dancing.
